Usyk vs Witherspoon: Tony Bellew explains how Oleksandr Usyk can dominate… and how he may fall short
Tony Bellew considers his former opponent Oleksandr Usyk can become world heavyweight champion by challenging Deontay Wilder – but cautioned that he wont beat everyone in his new branch.
Usyk as a heavyweight against Chazz Witherspoon live at Saturday night at 2am and, knocked out Bellew last year to defend his undisputed cruiserweight name.
Bellew believes Usyk can attain his goal of becoming world champion if he aims WBC holder Deontay Wilder.
Which exactly are Usyks strengths and weaknesses?
Tony Bellew said:Being there with him you see right away that he is constantly doing something and making you think every step along the way. His footwork is incredible for such a huge guy, and it is his feet which get him into position for strikes.
Due to his flaws, I think he is a tiny bit open and can be caught. No one has exploited that so far in the pros, although Seeing his conflicts, there was always a reaction from him if he got caught clean. His hands is up in the air sometimes and if this continues then it might get caught one time
What did you fight with most when you fought him?
Tony Bellew stated:Pinning him down was challenging since, as Ive stated, his footwork is just on another level. I had intended to have close and really work over him, but any time that I attempted to make a fight out of it, he had been too evasive. His toes will get him quite far in this sport, and also the way he feints and pops attacks is also striking.
Do Usyk be hurt?
Tony Bellew stated:The response to this is easy, but executing its another issue. You have got to strike him clean.
There are a few events from the amateurs where he is trapped flush and that he doesnt enjoy it. Because he is such a dazzling fighter, is going to be hard, however I believe theres a possibility he could move, if it is possible to get the goal then. Doing that is a difficult task
Is planning distinct when going to heavyweight?
Tony Bellew said:It is easier and I think Usyk will adore every second of it. I have fought at 175lbs and cruiserweight for the bulk of my profession so making dieting and weight was . Heavyweight removes that problem.
Dont get me wrong, you cant simply stuff your face, but eating the right foods as far as youd like is nice and it eliminates the strain of having to make fat. That has been the difference for me. The sparring becomes different as you are dealing with bigger guys, but its a necessity if you would like to get in there and do it real.
From Tyson Fury Anthony Joshua, as well as Deontay Wilder, whos Usyk?
Tony Bellew said:Wilder, and thats an easy answer. Dont get me wrong, when Wilder lands on him it is not likely to finish well for Usyk, however, you can say.
I just think [Joshua and Fury] are too large for him. Fundamentally, hes a better boxer than all of them, also I include Fury so, but hes just too small to compete for 12 rounds with them. I think the size of Fury and Joshua are a huge benefit and I dont think Usyk could conquer it.
Will Usyk win a world heavyweight title?
Tony Bellew stated:Yes. I think he would win that fight by simply being himself and doing what he does best if he was to struggle with Andy Ruiz tomorrow. There are only a few men I dont see him winning , but he is undoubtedly the most skilled fighter in the branch and that will give him a chance. Seeing his moves therell be intriguing and I wish him all the very best. He is an excellent fighter and Im sure he will succeed.
